🇮🇹 “IO SONO L’ENERGIA E VOI GLI SMARTPHONES…”
Una riflessione per la V Domenica, Pas. B (2-05-2021)
< Gv. 15,1-8 (Io sono la vite e voi i tralci)
I.
Se Gesù invece di 2000 anni fa fosse nato ai nostri giorni, come avrebbe comunicato il suo Vangelo? Probabilmente avrebbe usato i mass-media, i giornali, la televisione, la radio, twitter (come fa anche Papa Francesco), o Whatsapp, o Instagram, o you tube, o attraverso la sua pagina facebook o tic tok. Nel suo linguaggio forse non avrebbe usato simboli come: pastore e pecore, pescatori, vite e tralci, etc. Facciamo un tentativo, senza essere irriverenti, di tradurre in un linguaggio moderno questa pagina della vite e dei tralci usando altri simboli, magari più facilmente comprensibili agli uomini d’oggi e soprattutto ai giovani d’oggi.
II.
Cominciamo allora non dicendo “In quel tempo Gesù disse…” ma “Nel nostro tempo Gesù dice: Io sono l’energia elettrica e voi siete gli smartphones. Il padre mio è lo Sviluppatore di Software e App con un Know-how tecnico unico al mondo che periodicamente invia gli aggiornamenti. Se uno smartphone non viene ricaricato, a un certo punto si spegne e non serve a nulla. E se periodicamente non si aggiorna facendo l’update delle app e del software, diventa obsoleto e non viene sfruttato in tutte le sue potenzialità. Rimanete attaccati alla presa dell’energia elettrica perché se vi staccate, potrete resistere un giorno, due, magari anche tre, ma poi vi spegnerete. Potrete ricaricarvi un poco con un power-bank, ma anche quello alla fine si scaricherà e anche lui non servirà a nulla”.
III.
Abbiamo detto con altre parole quello che Gesù ha detto duemila anni fa.
Gesù usò come esempio il legno della vite. Perché a differenza degli altri legni che quando tagliati vengono utilizzati per fare tante cose (tavoli, sedie, oggetti vari…), il tralcio della vite invece, staccato dal tronco, non serve assolutamente a nulla, neanche per fare uno stuzzicadenti, ma solo può essere buttato via e bruciato. Così come con uno smartphone senza energia non possiamo fare nulla, né telefonare, navigare in internet, mandare messaggi, nulla. Senza energia non è che lo smartphone funziona poco, male, parzialmente… non funziona e basta. Così saremmo noi se siamo staccati dall’energia che è Gesù. La nostra vita deve essere quotidianamente alimentata da Gesù, dalla sua parola, dai sacramenti, dalla preghiera, altrimenti poco a poco si spegne. Potrà essere una agonia prolungata, perché ogni tanti ci ricordiamo qualcosa di Dio (come un power-bank al quale ricorriamo nei momenti di emergenza) ma alla fine ci spegniamo.
IV.
Abbiamo parlato nella nostra “traduzione moderna del vangelo” anche dello Sviluppatore di Software e App, che è Dio padre: tanti hanno ricevuto una iniziazione alla fede ma troppi si sono fermati a quella tappa, come chi per esempio ha preso uno smartphone dieci anni fa e poi non ha più fatto l’update, non l’ha più aggiornato. Tanti cristiani sono diventati grandi fisicamente ma funzionano nella loro fede ancora con il “Software” della prima comunione. Sarebbe come vedere un uomo di quarant’anni che veste ancora il vestitino della prima comunione. Sarebbe non solo obsoleto ma anche ridicolo.
V.
In poche righe Gesù ripete per sette volte il verbo “rimanere”. Perché questa insistenza sul rimanere unito a Lui? Per dare molti e buoni frutti. Per realizzarci. Per essere felici. Perché non possiamo dare frutti, realizzarci, essere felici se non siamo attaccati alla presa della felicità. “Se rimanete in me e le mie parole rimangono in voi, chiedete quello che volete e vi sarà fatto”. Rimanendo attaccati a Gesù abbiamo tutto quello che possiamo desiderare.
In questi giorni sto leggendo le bellissime “Lettere a un giovane poeta” del grande poeta del secolo scorso Rainer Maria Rilke. Rilke diceva a un giovane che gli aveva chiesto consigli riguardo alle sue poesie, che se non riusciva a vedere la bellezza attorno a sé non doveva incolpare le cose o il mondo ma solo se stesso. Anche noi non incolpiamo più Dio o gli altri per la nostra infelicità, ma solamente noi stessi. Come lo smartphone staccato dalla presa non può incolpare l’energia elettrica se non funziona. Non possiamo illuderci di essere felici un giorno, se non rimaniamo uniti alla fonte energetica della felicità.

I.
Se Jesus, em vez de 2000 anos atrás, tivesse nascido nos nossos dias, como teria ele comunicado o seu Evangelho? Ele provavelmente teria usado os meios de comunicação de massas, jornais, televisão, rádio, twitter (como o Papa Francisco), ou Whatsapp, ou Instagram, ou Youtube, ou através da sua página no Facebook ou TikTok. Na sua linguagem talvez não teria utilizado símbolos tais como: pastor e ovelhas, pescadores, videira e ramos, etc. Tentemos, sem sermos irreverentes, traduzir esta página da vinha e dos ramos para uma linguagem moderna utilizando outros símbolos, talvez mais facilmente compreensíveis pelas pessoas de hoje e especialmente pelos jovens de hoje.
II.
Comecemos, então, não por dizer "Naquele tempo Jesus disse..." mas "No nosso tempo Jesus diz: Eu sou a electricidade e vocês são os smartphones. O meu pai é o desenvolvedor de software e App com um know-how técnico único no mundo que periodicamente envia actualizações. Se um smartphone não for recarregado, a dada altura desligar-se-á e será inútil. E se não se actualizar periodicamente através da actualização de app e software, torna-se obsoleto e não é utilizado em todo o seu potencial. Mantenha-se ligado porque se desligar, pode durar um dia, dois, talvez até três, mas depois descarrega-se. Pode-se recarregar um pouco com um powerbank, mas mesmo isso acabará por se esgotar e também será inútil.
III.
Dissemos por outras palavras o que Jesus disse há dois mil anos.
Jesus utilizou a madeira da videira como exemplo. Isto porque, ao contrário de outras madeiras que, quando cortadas, são usadas para fazer muitas coisas (mesas, cadeiras, vários objectos...), o ramo da videira, destacado do tronco, não tem qualquer utilidade, nem sequer para fazer um palito, mas só pode ser deitado fora e queimado. Tal como com um smartphone sem energia, não podemos fazer nada, nem ligar, navegar na Internet, enviar mensagens, nada. Sem energia não é que o smartphone funcione pouco, mal, ou parcialmente... simplesmente não funciona. Assim estaríamos se estivéssemos desligados da energia que é Jesus. A nossa vida deve ser alimentada diariamente por Jesus, pela Sua palavra, pelos sacramentos, pela oração, caso contrário irá gradualmente desvanecer-se. Pode ser uma agonia prolongada, porque de vez em quando nos lembramos de algo sobre Deus (como um powerbank a que recorremos em tempos de emergência), mas no final acabamos.
IV.
Na nossa "tradução moderna do evangelho" também falámos sobre o Desenvolvedor de Software e App, que é Deus Pai: muitos receberam uma iniciação à fé mas demasiados pararam nessa fase, como aqueles que, por exemplo, receberam um smartphone há dez anos atrás e depois nunca fizeram update, nunca mais o actualizaram. Tantos cristãos cresceram fisicamente mas ainda funcionam na sua fé com o "Software" da Primeira Comunhão. Seria como ver um homem de quarenta anos de idade ainda a usar o pequeno vestido da sua primeira comunhão. Seria não só obsoleto como ridículo.
V.
Em poucas linhas Jesus repete o verbo "permanecer" sete vezes. Porquê esta insistência em permanecer unido a Ele? Para darmos muitos e bons frutos. Para realizarmos-nos. Para sermos felizes. Porque não podemos dar frutos, realizarmo-nos, sermos felizes se não estivermos ligados à tomada da felicidade. "Se permanecerdes em mim e as minhas palavras permanecerem em vós, peçais o que quereis e ser-vos-á feito". Permanecendo ligados a Jesus, temos tudo o que podemos desejar.
Nestes dias estou a ler as suas belas "Cartas a um Jovem Poeta" do grande poeta do século passado Rainer Maria Rilke. Rilke disse a um jovem que lhe tinha pedido conselhos sobre os seus poemas, que se não conseguisse ver a beleza à sua volta, não deveria culpar as coisas ou o mundo, mas apenas a si próprio. Assim também nós, já não culpamos Deus ou outros pela nossa infelicidade, mas apenas nós próprios. Tal como o smartphone desligado não pode culpar a electricidade se ele não funciona. Não podemos iludir-nos de que um dia seremos felizes se não permanecermos unidos à fonte de energia da felicidade.

I.
If Jesus had been born in our day instead of 2000 years ago, how would he have communicated his Gospel? He would probably have used the mass media, newspapers, television, radio, twitter (as Pope Francis also does), or Whatsapp, or Instagram, or you tube, or through his facebook page or tic tok. In his language, perhaps he would not have used symbols such as: shepherd and sheep, fishermen, vine and branches, etc. Let us make an attempt, without being irreverent, to translate this page of the vine and branches into modern language using other symbols, perhaps more easily understood by people today and especially by the young people of today.
II.
Let us begin, then, not by saying "At that time Jesus said..." but "In our time Jesus says: I am the electricity and you are the smartphones. My Father is the Software and App Developer with a unique technical know-how that periodically sends updates. If a smartphone is not recharged, at some point it shuts down and is useless. And if it is not periodically updated with apps and software, it becomes obsolete and is not used to its full potential. Stay plugged into the power socket because if you unplug, you can last a day, two, maybe even three, but then you will switch off. You can recharge a little with a power-bank, but that too will eventually run out and it too will be useless”.
III.
We have said in other words what Jesus said two thousand years ago.
Jesus used the wood of the vine as an example. Because unlike other woods which, when cut, are used to make many things (tables, chairs, various objects...), the branch of the vine, detached from the trunk, is of absolutely no use, not even to make a toothpick, but can only be thrown away and burnt. In the same way, without energy, we can't do anything with a smartphone: we can't make phone calls, use the Internet, send messages, nothing. Without energy, it's not that the smartphone works poorly, badly, partially... it just doesn't work. That is how we would be if we were disconnected from the energy that is Jesus. Our life must be daily fed by Jesus, by his word, by the sacraments, by prayer, otherwise it will gradually die out. It may be a prolonged agony, because every so often we are reminded of God (like a power-bank to which we resort in times of emergency), but in the end we switch off.
IV.
In our "modern translation of the gospel" we also spoke of the Software and App Developer, who is God the Father: many have received an initiation into the faith but too many have stopped at that stage, like those who, for example, got a smartphone ten years ago and then never updated it. Many christians have grown up physically but still function in their faith with the 'software' of their first communion. It would be like seeing a man of forty years old still wearing the dress of his first communion. It would not only be obsolete but also ridiculous.
V.
In a few lines Jesus repeats the verb "to remain" seven times. Why this insistence on remaining united to Him? To bear much and good fruit. To fulfil ourselves. To be happy. Because we cannot bear fruit, fulfil ourselves, be happy if we are not attached to the grip of happiness. "If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask what you will and it will be done to you." By remaining attached to Jesus we have all that we can desire.
These days I am reading his beautiful "Letters to a Young Poet" by the great poet of the last century Rainer Maria Rilke. Rilke told a young man who had asked him for advice about his poems, that if he could not see the beauty around him, he should not blame things or the world, but only himself. So we no longer blame God or others for our unhappiness, but only ourselves. Just as the smartphone unplugged cannot blame the electricity if it does not work. We cannot delude ourselves that we will be happy one day if we do not remain united to the energy source of happiness.
